This pack of materials has been used and developed since the introduction of the Code of Practice in 1994. It has stood the test of time and been used by SENCOs, senior managers and governors in many different schools and settings, across the whole age range, both in the UK and abroad.
This set of photocopiable resources has been updated to reflect current developments. Even though there is uncertainty about the detail of the new Codes of Practice, the key task of monitoring and evaluating the impact of a schools work for SEN remains as important and necessary as ever.
The work to complete these audit tools needs to be planned for over a realistic period of time, but once completed the information gathered will enable the SENCO, the school and the governing body to really feel on top of the SEN policy. These materials are not an end in themselves, they have been designed to demonstrate effectiveness, to support quality planning and to accurately reflect the schools commitment to their children and families. Above all else, the aim is to release teachers time and effort for the job they do best - teaching and working with pupils.
